New Year New You?

Whew! With the end of all the holiday craziness comes thoughts of the new year up ahead. Around this time people start reflecting on how their previous year was, what good things happened, what goals they accomplished, and unfortunately what didn’t go the way they had planned. All this usually ends with people deciding the next year will be different, making resolutions of what they will do to make the changes… we all know how that goes; we promise ourselves we’ll go to the gym, we’ll lose the weight we’ve been telling ourselves we would, we’ll save more money, make better choices… all of those things we’ve told not only ourselves but also to our friends and family (to have accountability of course) but let’s be honest, most of the time we’ll go crazy about it for a couple weeks (…if your lucky) but ultimately we stop doing our resolutions and next thing we know the year has past and we find ourselves in the exact same spot we were in the year prior and we’re starting the vicious cycle of promises again.

But I’ve got some good news, there is a way for us to have a new start. One of the things that I am truly in awe of with our Father is that He wipes our slate clean. 2 Corinthians 5:17 say’s “ Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:[a] The old has gone, the new is here!” WOW! I don’t know about everyone else, but I know that I’ve got things in my past that I am very thankful aren’t being held against me. I feel so incredibly blessed that when I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior He washed away my past and made me a new creation! Talk about new year new you right? The beauty of it is that even though we may fall off the wagon with our own resolutions, this is a promise from God. Which means that it won’t ever go away, it wont ever be something we can’t have. Once our Father makes a promise (which He has in His word) He stays true to that. He never goes back on His word. The things the Lord has promised to us are somethings hard to grasp but they are promises of support, love, a shelter to run to, a loving Father, and an eternal life with our Savior (of course there are many more promises too) What a comforting thing to know that I will always be a new creation in my Lord. And if I ever “fall off the wagon” all I need to do is talk to my Father. He always forgives me.

So, if you’re thinking about wanting a fresh start this upcoming year I urge you to spend time with the Lord. Ask Him if there is anything that you have in your life that need to be made new, have you fallen back into your old way of life?

With 2018 fast approaching ask yourself…. Are you ready for a new you this year?
